Port Decarbonisation and Environmental Sustainability Workshop
Event date: 17.09.2024
Location:
Belfast, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom
Background: Shipping contributed to 2% of global energy-related emissions in 2022. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) aims to reduce this by half by 2050. Decarbonizing ports is crucial to achieving this goal. ESA’s First Port Decarbonisation and Environmental Sustainability workshop will explore the role of space data and services in supporting the green transition of port ecosystems. Fee: Free for registered participants Workshop Overview: Hosted by the Belfast Harbour Commission on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the United Kingdom Space Agency (UKSA), this one-day workshop will focus on: Onshore power Green shipping corridors Uptake of renewable energy solutions Impact of changing Net Zero regulations from 2025 onwards Efficiency gains through digitalization of port operations will be examined, including monitoring air quality, greenhouse gas emissions, and water quality. Emerging solutions enabled by space data and services and their potential for commercial exploitation by the port industry will be discussed. How Space Can Help with Port Decarbonisation: The workshop will cover: Optimization and energy efficiency technologies for ports Vessel efficiency improvements through data, software, or autonomy Autonomous vessels and port vehicles New decarbonization measures like sensors and robotic systems Port operations optimization and digitization Digital tools for port emissions monitoring Opportunities to introduce new technologies in the maritime sector Event Programme: 9.15-9.45: Registration 9.45-10.00: Welcome and Introductions 10.00-11.30: Keynote Presentations 11.30-11.40: Break 11.40-12.45: Keynote Presentations, Delivery Pathways, and Funding Options 12.45-13.30: Lunch, Network, and Platform Demonstrations 13.30-14.40: Emerging Technologies – Industry Use Cases 14.45-15.45: Opportunities for Collaborations - SME Use Cases 15.45: Summary and Wrap Up Session Who Should Attend?
