Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Eamon Ryan, announced that Cork will host European Maritime Day (EMD) in 2025, a significant event given Ireland's upcoming EU presidency in 2026.
Established in 2008, EMD is the EU's primary forum on maritime affairs and sustainable blue growth. The event will include a two-day conference expected to attract over 1,000 delegates, featuring high-level sessions, speakers, and workshops. Co-organized by the Government of Ireland, Cork City Council, and the EU's Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, EMD will highlight Cork's rich maritime history.
The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Dan Boyle, celebrated the recognition of Cork as a maritime hub. The event will also include an exhibition space for stakeholders to showcase blue economy innovations and foster networking opportunities.
