International Green Corridors Fund: UK - IE Feasibility Studies
Description Organisations registered in the UK and Ireland are invited to apply for a portion of EUR 1 milion to conduct joint R&D projects that explore Green Shipping Corridor routes between the UK and Ireland. Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, is collaborating with the UK Department for Transport (DFT) and the Marine Institute, Ireland (MI-IE) the national body responsible for marine research and innovation. Together, they will allocate a total of £860,000 (EUR 1 million) to innovation projects, with funding contributions of £430,000 from the UK and €500,000 from Ireland. The initiative will focus on feasibility studies for Green Shipping Corridors that link the UK and Ireland. These six-month projects, funded by Innovate UK for UK partners in cooperation with Irish partners, aim to stimulate the early adoption of innovative, long-term solutions that could ultimately lead to zero-emission shipping. Proposals must include both technical and economic feasibility studies. Award Up to 70% of project costs can be covered, depending on the business size. The project's combined UK and IE total costs must be between £50,000 (EUR 59,000) and £250,000 (EUR 300,000). Who can apply Each collaboration must include a minimum of three eligible organisations. The primary applicant must be a UK-registered business of any size, initiating the application via the Innovation Funding Service (IFS). The collaboration must involve: A UK-registered port or harbour. An eligible port or harbour registered in Ireland. A business registered in the UK or Ireland that owns or operates a vessel servicing routes between the two countries. Additionally, your project may incorporate other eligible UK or Irish entities that can claim grants, including: Businesses of any size. Academic institutions. Charities. Non-profit organisations. Public sector bodies. Research and technology organisations (RTOs). Irish organisations must adhere to the eligibility rules specified on the Marine Institute’s website under Current Funding Opportunities. A UK or Irish business, regardless of size, may lead multiple applications and participate in additional projects as a partner. Other UK entities are also eligible to participate in multiple applications. Eligible projects Your project must: Have combined UKI and IE total costs between £50,000 (approx. €59,000) and £250,000 (approx. €300,000). Not allocate more than 65% of the total project costs to either UK or Irish organisations. Commence on 1 October 2024 and conclude by 31 March 2025, lasting up to six months. Be carried out in both the UK and Ireland. For grant funding eligibility, your project must be approved by the funding authorities in both the UK and Ireland. Successful UK participants will receive their funding from Innovate UK, while Irish participants will be funded by the Marine Institute, Ireland.
