Challenge / Goal
The goal of the project is to construct a liquid CO2 terminal in Rotterdam's port to support Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) efforts, progressing to the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) phase. The construction of the terminal aims to to reduce carbon emissions by providing infrastructure for industries to capture and store CO2, crucial for hard-to-abate sectors. The project aims to contribute to the decarbonization targets set by the Dutch climate agreement and the European Green Deal.
Solution
- Awarded the FEED contract to Sener to define terminal design, schedule, and costs.
- Collaborated with the Aramis CCS project to explore technical possibilities.
- Engaged potential customers for the terminal with a projected initial capacity of 5.4 Mtpa.
- Located the terminal in Maasvlakte, Rotterdam, with access to the Yangtze Canal for efficient shipment and storage connections.
- Secured partnerships with Shell and TotalEnergies.
