Challenge / Goal

The challenge is to balance the increasing commercial marine activity in the region with the conservation of at-risk whales that share the same waters. The goal is to reduce the potential impacts of shipping on whales, such as vessel strikes, acoustic disturbance, or habitat degradation

Solution

The solution is to conduct scientific research, develop educational resources, and coordinate voluntary measures that aim to mitigate the risks of shipping on whales. Examples of measures include slowing down ships, moving shipping lanes away from whale habitats, or installing noise-reducing technologies on vessels
