Challenge / Goal
To achieve a balance between economic development and environmental protection in the port; to comply with relevant and applicable international and national regulations, guidelines and standards; to increase environmental awareness and consciousness among port stakeholders; to contribute to the sustainable development of ports in the APEC region.
Solution
The port established a 2.37-hectare Tree Park planted with indigenous species; replaced streetlights and lighting fixtures with solar panels and LED bulbs; installed motion-sensor for lighting facilities at warehouse; secured Earth-Balling Permit to salvage trees affected by construction; designated Pollution Control Officers to monitor environmental performance; implemented Environmental Education Extension program; attained Integrated Management System EHSQ Objective of 5% energy reduction
