Challenge / Goal
The initiative aims to strengthen port management in developing countries to enhance trade flow efficiency and support economic development. Challenges such as climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, and geopolitical conflicts have underscored the need for resilient port operations. This program addresses these challenges by building robust human resource capabilities and creating a network for knowledge exchange among global port communities.
Solution
The partnership has been operational since 2007, with Dublin Port Company, Port of Cork, and Belfast Harbour providing ongoing support. They host training sessions, contribute to curriculum development, and offer expertise. The upcoming Training of Trainers and Coordination Meeting in Cork from 17-24 April 2024 will involve senior managers from the English-speaking network undergoing blended learning. Participants will first engage in an e-learning session covering Modules 5 to 8, focusing on modern port management aspects such as economic and commercial management, administrative and legal management, and technical and human resources development. The face-to-face workshop will include practical exercises, technical visits to Port of Cork facilities, and interactive sessions like the Port Endeavor Game, which educates on UN Sustainable Development Goals.
