Porthos is a project to capture, transport and store CO2 from industry in the Port of Rotterdam area in empty gas fields under the North Sea. It aims to contribute to reducing CO2 emissions in the Netherlands and play an active role in the energy transition.

Challenge / Goal

To achieve the climate objectives of the Netherlands by reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% in 2030 compared with 1990 and becoming climate neutral by 2050. 

Solution

To capture and store CO2 (Carbon Capture and Storage, CCS) as a fast and low-cost way to significantly reduce the production process impact of industry, while working on fundamental and structural innovations for sustainability.
