Challenge / Goal
To cement Khalifa Port’s position as a major global trade and logistics hub, to diversify UAE’s economy and realize sustainable development, to accommodate the growing demand for containerized cargo and general cargo in the region, to incorporate novel sustainability measures for the terminal area and equipment.
Solution
o develop a 465,000 m2 container terminal for CMA CGM and a 400 x 580 m plot for general cargo, to design the buildings to Estidama standards and the Admin building to be net-positive energy and net zero carbon, to provide shore to ship power to reduce emissions from ships at berth, to use GGBS cement for large portions of the concrete infrastructure, to dredge 16.8 million cubic meters of water, to construct a 1.2 km quay wall and a 3.8 km long detached breakwater.
