Challenge / Goal

The initiative aims to improve berth management and overall operational efficiency at the Deurganck dock, which handles significant container traffic. The goal is to leverage smart technologies to proactively manage and maintain berthing spaces, thus supporting the port’s vision of becoming a leading smart port.

Solution
  • Introduction of Autonomous Sounding Boat: The Echodrone, an innovative autonomous sounding boat, was developed to complement the existing Echo boat for measuring water depths and ensuring safe passage for vessels.
  • Deployment of Smart Technologies: The smart quay will include cameras and sensors to monitor vessel berthing and ensure optimal use of space.
  • Implementation of Cloud-Based Technology: Data collected by various devices is processed in the cloud, allowing the Echodrone to navigate independently using verified data. This comprehensive approach ensures precise and proactive berth management, reducing the need for corrective maneuvers.
