Challenge / Goal
The Thames river is one of the busiest waterways in the world, with over 10 million passengers and 50 million tonnes of cargo transported every year. However, most of the vessels use diesel engines that emit harmful pollutants and greenhouse gases, contributing to climate change and health problems for Londoners.
Solution
The GreenWave Project London proposes to install solar panels, wind turbines and tidal generators along the river banks, as well as electric charging stations for boats at key locations. These will provide clean and cheap energy for the vessels, reducing their dependence on fossil fuels and lowering their emissions. The project also aims to raise awareness and encourage more people to use the river as a sustainable mode of transport.
